I have been at Winterwood for 4 years
Hobbies:
I love to play music and write songs in my spare time. In the winter I ski as much as possible and help to coach the free ski team at Jay Peak.
Education/past experience:
I studied at Sterling College in Craftsbury Common, VT and self designed a major in sustainable building and design. It was there that I started learning about timber framing and gained some experience through workshops and helping friends.

Why do you like what you do?
I enjoy working with my hands and creating a product that I can be proud of. I also enjoy the constant process of learning and getting better at things, which combined with the variety of work that we do day-to-day, keeps the job interesting.

I started with Winterwood in September of 2020. 2.5 years. I grew up with a contractor as a father and have been involved with construction throughout my life.
Hobbies:
I get to be a dad when I’m home to an awesome baby boy. I love hiking and volunteering in my free time.
Education/past experience:
I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and Psychology. An Associate’s Degree in Environmental Science. And a bunch of experience in construction and wildland fire.

Why do you like what you do?
Timber framing is a craft that is centuries old. Yeah, we use power tools, but I love being a part of such an ancient skill and witnessing the end result, a beautiful and skillfully raised frame.

First frame cut in 2000. 40 years as a builder/carpenter.

Taking the dogs for hikes or playing in the snow with dogs or going camping with the dogs. Also snowboarding when there is time.

Roughly one and a half years at Winterwood. No prior professional experience.
Hobbies:
Submission grappling and grappling with my own emotions. Playing the guitar, writing, doodling and skiing.
Education/past experience:
(A college degree in something that gave me fun facts about fish behavior and theoretical ideas about the economy but no concrete skills to make cold hard cash.) I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Resource Economics and minored in Biology at the University of Southern Maine.
Favorite food:
(The two moderately priced appetizers at a Japanese fusion restaurant in a recently gentrified neighborhood.) Kimchi, Sushi, and fried eggs, not necessarily at the same time, but maybe so.
Why do you like what you do?
I enjoy the process of creating something that is tangible. There’s nothing quite like putting hands to wood and seeing it take shape. I also love getting wood chips up my nose.

Position: Architectural Designer / Lead Designer
How long at Winterwood and/or timber framing/carpentry/woodworking?
I celebrated my 1 year anniversary at Winterwood this past January. I have been a practicing designer for 8 years.
Hobbies:
I enjoy playing the saxophone, soccer with friends, snowboarding, foraging, good food, and I am slowly learning the guitar.
Education/past experience:
I graduated from Ithaca College with a degree in Architecture and Environmental Sciences. It was the best education I could have asked for and set me up for the next 6+ years of work in sustainable community design, before I joined Winterwood. I have also found time for farming, woodworking, and travel.
Favorite food:
Thai food and good pasta.
Why do you like what you do?
I enjoy drawing the embodied beauty of the forest into our clients’ homes. Timber framing is a traditional craft that requires a level of intention, artistry, and spirit that I haven’t found in contemporary construction. Plus, walking into a pine scented workshop every day is a nice perk!

I have been at Winterwood for 2 ½ years. I have 35 years of experience in the woodworking field.
Hobbies:
I hunt and fish. I train/teach Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

I worked at Neudorfer Inc for 32 years.

Why do you like what you do?
I enjoy all the different things I get to do. It might be flooring one week, a kitchen the next, and some furniture the next. And getting to chat with all the different people to try to figure out the best way to give them what they want.

As I get older I realize there is so much to learn.

To learn and to grow. Carpentry in itself is satisfying as you often get to start with nothing but materials and watch the project grow into a beautiful structure that someone and possibly their family are going to live in and enjoy for the rest of their lives.
